Quistis is technically the first party member to join Squall for his adventure. She uses a whip as her primary weapon but also has access to Blue Magic spells, which functions similar to Enemy Skill Materia in Final Fantasy VII or like Quina’s Blue Magic in Final Fantasy IX, allowing her to make use of enemy magics and skills.

There’s a fan club for her at Balamb Garden called the “Trepies” which is super creepy, and she is also incredibly young to be an instructor, so she fits right in when she later decides to join Squall and his crew for the rest of their journey.
