Abilities
There are different types of abilities in Final Fantasy XVI. There are normal abilities that Clive can use; abilities that appear in the central circle of the “Abilities” tab in the main menu. These abilities allow him to perform normal actions in combat and include actions such as:
…as well as many others. These abilities are referred to as “Core Abilities.”
The other type of abilities that you will encounter, though, are called “Eikonic Abilities,” and these are actions that Clive can perform through the power of an Eikon he obtains. He earns his first Eikonic Abilities from the Eikon Phoenix at the start of Chapter 1 of the game, following the prologue. Check out the sections below for more information:

Embodying an Eikon
There are several points in the game where you’re in control of an Eikon, including at the very beginning of the game during the sequence between Phoenix and Ifrit. The controls during this section of the game are very easy and only require you to press to shoot and press
to dodge, but you’ll gain access to additional abilities later on in the fight, and those are outlined below:
