The first enemy that you encounter in Bikanel will be a Zu that Tidus will start off battling all by himself.
Zu is fairly large and appears intimidating, but it is very easy to defeat. It has a predictable attack pattern that won’t do too much damage to your party members, and it will drop to the ground once it falls to 1⁄3 of its HP. Have Wakka use 
Dark Attack or Dark Buster to inflict the Darkness status effect and greatly reduce the amount of damage that it does.

You can find them anywhere on Bikanel Island, but the best place to find them is to head back to the sign that says “weak enemies to the right, strong enemies to the left” (in Al Bhed) and head to the left.
