Psychic
A Dressphere exclusive to the HD Remaster and International versions of the game that fights with telekinesis, teleportation, and a set of defensive abilities that can make a character untouchable.
Overview
The Psychic earns its high ranking for its defensive abilities rather than its damage. It only has three real attacks:
Psychic Bomb, which hits every enemy and ignores both Protect and the target’s Defense,
Maser Eye, a single-target attack, and
Brainstorm, which inflicts Confusion and Silence on every enemy. They are decent, but a
Dark Knight or a
Samurai will out-damage them without trying.
What sets the Psychic apart is everything else on its list.
Magic Guard and
Physics Guard make the character immune to magic or to physical attacks for a time, and
Excellence makes her immune to both, which is as close to invincibility as the game offers.
Time Trip freezes everything except the user for ten seconds, giving her a string of free actions, and
Express grants Haste along with a boost to Accuracy and Evasion.
Teleport moves the character behind her target, and
Telekinesis can throw an ordinary fiend out of the battle entirely.
On top of that, the Psychic learns the five Eater auto-abilities.
Fire Eater,
Ice Eater,
Lightning Eater, and
Water Eater turn damage of that element into healing, and
Gravity Eater does the same for gravity attacks once the other four have been learned. Its stat growth favors HP, MP, Strength, Magic, Magic Defense, and Agility, while its Defense, Evasion, and Luck are poor, so it is at its best when paired with accessories that shore up its Defense.
The result is a Dressphere that can be obtained as early as Chapter 1 and is strong from the moment it is equipped. It doesn’t deal the most damage, but a Psychic that cannot be hurt has all the time it needs.
How to Obtain It
The Psychic is available in the HD Remaster and International versions only. Speak to Shinra on the Celsius and win the “Standard Cup” tournament in the Fiend Arena of the Creature Creator. The Dressphere is your reward. You can get it as early as Chapter 1, but it’s recommended that you wait until your characters are a bit higher leveled and aim to complete the Standard Cup in Chapter 2.
