A Dressphere that fights alongside a pet, with a different creature and a different ability list for each character.

Overview

Yuna is joined by Kogoro, Rikku by Ghiki, and Paine by Flurry, and each pet brings its own set of abilities. That variety is the most interesting thing about the Trainer, and unfortunately it is also where its problems start, because none of the three sets deals enough damage to justify a party slot.

The one genuinely useful set belongs to Paine. Flurry can restore HP to the whole party, cure status ailments, and cast Protect or Haste while healing, which makes her a serviceable backup healer. Kogoro and Ghiki lean on status effects and stealing instead, and both are outclassed by a Thief or an Alchemist doing the same job better.

Where the Trainer earns its keep is outside of battle. It learns HP Stroll, MP Stroll, and Half MP Cost, which restore HP and MP as you walk and halve every spell cost in the game. Those are worth picking up on one character and carrying elsewhere on a Garment Grid, even if the Dressphere itself never sees a serious fight.

How to Obtain It

Kimahri hands over the Trainer Dressphere during the Chapter 3 mission on Mt. Gagazet, but only if you spoke with him on your earlier visits and answered him correctly. Check out the walkthrough for the conversation you need to have:
