Luca and Mi’ihen Highroad
The quest you need to complete back in Luca is an extremely easy one, and it begins as soon as Yuna and her crew land in the town limits area of Luca.
Mission: Behind the Scenes
This Mission involves reliving scenes from the game’s opening cutscenes and cinematics, which take place during the concert sequence here in Luca. With Yuna dressed up in her Moogle Mascot garment, head back down the stairs that she just ascended, and into Luca Square.
Head over and speak to the Luca concert worker near the vendor booth southeast of the statue. He’ll hand you ten balloons to hand out to residents in the plaza.
You can find all balloon recipients without leaving this area. Use the screenshots below to help you find them, but in summary, you’ll need to hand out a balloon to everyone in the plaza except the kid running around and the green soldier patrolling the area. Two of the recipients are behind the glass wall in the northwest section of the plaza:
You’ll receive the
Healing Wind Garment Grid automatically after you hand out the last balloon.
There are a few more cutscenes to watch, including one that will only trigger if Rikku interacted with the Moogle on her way past during the opening sequence, as mentioned in the Luca Prologue section.
An additional scene plays during this flashback sequence where Rikku will approach Yuna on the docks. Yuna will say…
As mentioned above, this dialogue only triggers if you interacted with the Moogle on your way through Dock 2 at the beginning of the game.
This super easy Mission is already complete. Yuna, Rikku, and Paine will automatically be transported back onto the Celsius, but head back down to Luca for a few more quick items. Firstly, there are some treasure chests to pick up, with the first being right where you land. Use the screenshot and the maps below to help you find them:
Make sure you pick up the
Thunder Spawn Garment Grid, as this item is only obtainable in Chapters 1 and 2.
Head into the Luca Stadium locker rooms (Basement A) to reunite with Rin. He’ll tell you about a brand-new game called “Sphere Break.”
Speak to Rin in the stadium’s Basement A. If you leave Luca without doing this, the same line can still be triggered later by viewing Rin’s entry in Shinra’s Dossiers.
You’ll also receive
Al Bhed Primer during this interaction.
If you’d like to know more about Sphere Break now, you can check out the Sphere Break section of the guide using the link below, but this can definitely wait until later. Otherwise, there’s a chance you’ll study up on the rules and get some practice, only to forget some of the basics when you really need it. Either way, it’s up to you.
Side Quests
An explanation of the rules and some tips you can use to practice winning games ahead of the upcoming tournament.
That’s all you can do in Luca for Chapter 1. Head back up to the Celsius using the closest
Save Sphere, or you can walk back to the Town Limits and walk up the stairs to your next destination.
Mi’ihen Highroad
Enter from the airship or from the stairs leading up from Luca to kick off a short cutscene where Yuna briefly describes her previous trips to the Mi’ihen Highroad with her Guardians.
Lore
You may have noticed that the characters never mention Tidus by name; they constantly refer to “him” or talk about him in the third person. Unfortunately, the developers of Final Fantasy X-2 couldn’t control this. Because you had the option to rename the main character, whose default name is “Tidus,” at the beginning of Final Fantasy X, his name could have essentially been anything when you traveled through Spira!
You’ll never hear the name “Tidus” mentioned in Final Fantasy X or Final Fantasy X-2, which is why so many players still pronounce it wrong (the first syllable rhymes with “see,” so it’s “TEE-dus,” not “TIE-dus”).
Triggering that short cutscene is the only thing you need to do in the Mi’ihen Highroad. There is some treasure you can pick up in this area, and you can build up some EXP by battling some fiends as you travel through this zone, but otherwise, you can already head to the next destination. If you do decide to venture along the Highroad, use the maps below to help you track down each of the treasure chests:
Mi’ihen Highroad - Oldroad South End

Mi’ihen Highroad - Oldroad Central
Mi’ihen Highroad - Newroad
