Bikanel Desert
The first time you travel to Bikanel, the team will be lost in the desert, just like they were in Final Fantasy X. Follow Rikku forward as she runs through the desert. You’ll end up having to face off against a few fiend battles along the way.
Eventually, the team will collapse in the desert and be rescued by a team of Al Bhed from the excavation camp. You’ll receive
Al Bhed Primer the first time you arrive in camp.
To speak to the forewoman, Nhadala, you’ll have to interact with most of the non-playable characters (NPCs) in this area. Talk to the Al Bhed near Rikku and Paine, and talk to the man standing near the hover. Nhadala will come riding into camp once you’ve whittled away enough time.
Speak to Nhadala and present her with the
Letter of Introduction that you received from Gippal. She will offer to let you participate in an excavation.
Talk to the pilot standing near the hover again and select the option to travel to the “Western Expanse.” This is the only location you can travel to right now. More locations will open up for you to excavate later on, but you’ll want to leave those for later.
Mission: Can You Dig It?
The logic for how these digs work is very straightforward:
- A
marks the key item you want to dig up. Your dig is only considered successful if you get the yellow item.
- A
marks a regular item; this could include Gil,
Potions, Sphere Break coins, and even
Al Bhed Primers - The
marks the hover; make it back to the hover before time expires, and you win!
For now, focus on completing this first Mission for Nhadala by finding the
Scrap Metal item, and that’s it. Don’t do any extra digging.
For those who are curious as to why: you’ll be fighting a boss later on in the game that can be powered up by collecting treasure from these excavations. While you definitely want to beat the fully powered-up version of the boss, you also need to defeat the low-level version too if you’re aiming for 100% Story Completion. So you will be excavating, but save it for later.
Collect the piece of
Scrap Metal and then head right back to the hover. Nhadala will thank you for your good work and reward you with a
Still of Night Garment Grid. Mission Complete!
Use the
Save Sphere nearby to warp back up to the Celsius and then head to Bevelle.
Checking the “Bikanel Desert Complete” box adds the Story Completion Percent for the automatic scenes in Bikanel Desert.
