Luca
Another cutscene triggers the first time you return to Luca during Chapter 5 involving a voiceover from Shelinda. She’ll talk about how the Blitzball season is now underway before Buddy joins the scene and offers you your first opportunity to “play Blitzball” in Final Fantasy X-2.
It can’t be overstated how big the differences are between Blitzball in Final Fantasy X and Blitzball in Final Fantasy X-2. While you could argue that it was easy in Final Fantasy X, it’s even easier in Final Fantasy X-2 because you don’t even get to ‘play’ your team once the game has started. This version of Blitzball operates more like the “GM” mode in an EA sports game where you make decisions about how much to train, who to sign, and what positions they’ll play.
The most important element, though, is that it’s extremely easy, and none of it is required for 100% Story Completion. The one thing tied to it is the
Teamwork! Achievement/Trophy, which only requires you to win one match. You have two options: you can deviate from the main game a bit and ‘play’ some Blitzball now, or return to Luca and play it later.
Side Quests
A high-level overview of how to scout free agents, sign and cut players, renew contracts, spend your “Command Points,” train, and win Blitzball matches in Final Fantasy X-2’s new style.
Whether you opted to play some games or not, you still haven’t achieved an “Episode Complete” for Luca yet. Travel back to the outskirts of town, up the stairs toward the Mi’ihen Highroad. Longtime fans will recognize the balcony where Yuna and Tidus had the whistling and laughing scene in Final Fantasy X.
Mission: Follow That Moogle!
This Mission is in the running for one of the easiest Missions you’ll complete in the game. Just follow the moogle down the square for another cutscene, then to the bridge, then the stadium, and then the docks.
There’s really no way to mess this sequence up. Towards the end, when Yuna, Rikku, and Paine reach the docks, they’ll have a short discussion about all of the memories they have built up over the course of their adventures, and you’ll see an “Episode Complete” message.
You’ll be transported back up to the Celsius, which is great, because you’ve done everything you can do in Luca… unless you go back to play Blitzball, or Sphere Break, or if you lost the Chapter 3 tournament, Shinra waits in Basement A for a harder rematch, your last chance at the
Lady Luck Dressphere.
The next location to select is the Mi’ihen Highroad, which you can also reach by traveling to Luca again and walking up the stairs.
Checking the “Luca Complete” box adds the Story Completion Percent for the automatic scenes in Luca.
