White Mage

This Dressphere is used to heal and provide beneficial status buffs to your party members. It is one of only a few Dresspheres that provide defensive and support spells that recover HP.

Overview

In Final Fantasy X, it’s possible to have your magic-focused characters learn both offensive and defensive spells, but the White Mage Dressphere in Final Fantasy X-2 is limited to healing spells and beneficial buffs only. You can improve their effectiveness by having a White Mage learn White Magic Lv. 2 and White Magic Lv. 3, but if your party members don’t require healing, there won’t be much for them to do on their turn.

Thankfully, White Mages have been provided with abilities that don’t eat up their MP. You can use both Pray and Vigor if there’s nothing to do on their turn to slowly help party members (or the caster) recover HP over time. This essentially functions like a “Regen,” and a White Mage can cast Pray fast enough to counteract most standard, non-boss attacks.

The reason this role is listed as Rank D, even though most players would probably consider it a necessary role, is because it is outdone by the Alchemist Dressphere. The Alchemist is capable of healing the party and has quite a bit more utility, so while there’s nothing inherently wrong with a White Mage, it ends up getting beat out for a permanent spot.

How to Obtain It

Travel to Besaid during Chapter 1 of the game by completing the cipher to gain entry to the cave and meet up with Wakka.
