Mascot

A wacky-looking Dressphere that puts each of the characters in an odd-looking costume, but it’s without a doubt the strongest Dressphere in the game.

RankS

Overview

The Mascot Dressphere is the last one you obtain at the end of the game if you’ve managed to get an “Episode Complete” for every location in Chapter 5. Being the last Dressphere, it’s also the most powerful for three reasons:

  • Yuna, Rikku, and Paine each get access to unique abilities that are extremely powerful
  • They’ll also each get access to a subset of abilities from other Dresspheres if they’ve learned them
  • They receive a huge boost to their character stats at the same time

Let’s talk about each of these elements.

Sub-Abilities

If you access the “Abilities” screen for the Mascot Dressphere, you’ll notice that Yuna has access to Swordplay and Arcana Abilities. All three characters can use abilities from some of their other Dresspheres:

To use these abilities, though, they’ll have to have learned them for their respective Dressphere. So, for example, if Rikku learns the White Mage’s Curaga ability, she’ll be able to use it in battle while wearing her Mascot Dressphere.

As you can see, there is a whole subset of abilities you’ll want to start having your characters learn, but you have plenty of time as you work your way through the rest of the content.

Ultimate Abilities

All three Mascots have different abilities that they can learn, but they all have really powerful abilities you’ll want to have them learn as quickly as possible. These abilities are all locked behind a prerequisite. Each character will have to learn the SOS Protect Ability in their Warrior Dressphere, and unlocking SOS Protect requires learning Sentinel first. Once they have learned Sentinel and SOS Protect, they can learn:

Yuna’s Moogle Beam and Paine’s Cactling Gun are two of the strongest attacks in the game. Rikku’s PuPu Platter ability has a chance of ejecting an enemy from the fight, but because it doesn’t work against most bosses, it’s not as strong as the others. All three, however, can learn the Ribbon ability, which prevents all negative status effects without actually having to equip a Ribbon accessory. Nice!

How to Obtain It

As noted above, you’ll need to earn an “Episode Complete” in each location rather than an “Episode Concluded.” There is a bug you should be aware of when obtaining the Mascot Dressphere.

Every time you see “Episode Complete” on the screen, the game automatically warps you back up to the Celsius. And after you’ve earned all 15 “Episode Completes,” you’ll be transported back up to the Celsius, and a cutscene will play. You’ll get the Dressphere during this scene…

Well, that is, you’ll be transported back up to the Celsius after every “Episode Complete” message… except one. You guessed it: it’s the Zanarkand Ruins.

After you see the “Episode Complete” screen here at the Zanarkand Ruins, you won’t be transported up to the Celsius, because the game wants you to have an important conversation with Maechen. It’s the only episode that leaves you down on the ground. If it was your last one, the reward cutscene doesn’t get its trigger, and it will keep not playing until something else warps you back aboard.

This is very easy to avoid, though. Just don’t leave the Zanarkand Ruins until last. And if it’s too late, and you’re wondering what to do now because you never got the Mascot Dressphere, check out the Fixing the Episode Complete Bug page in the Tips and Tricks section.
