Ramuh
Making use of some of the abilities that Cid utilizes during their travels, Clive takes on the element of Lightning and gains access to a whole host of abilities that are useful throughout the game. You’ll first gain access to Ramuh after defeating Typhon during 
The Crystals’ Curse Main Chapter Scenario, and you won’t get any time to play around or customize those abilities before your first battle with them against the Republican War Panther.
In many ways, Ramuh provides more overall strength and utility to the attacks that you’ve already been using. 
Lightning Rod, specifically, is an ability that you can use to maximize Clive’s damage during a stagger window. Unfortunately, though, Ramuh’s Eikonic Feat (
Blind Justice) is considered to be pretty bad. It has its die-hard defenders—probably the type of gamers that like first-person shooters—but its attack style is entirely different from the other action-oriented attacks that other Eikons provide.
Blind Justice
Eikonic Feat
Launch a barrage of ball lightning at one or more enemies. Targets are determined by locking onto them before executing the ability. Ball lightning will affix itself to a target and can then be discharged to deal additional damage.
Tips and Tricks
- The biggest drawback to this ability is going to be the first thing you notice about it once you use it for the first time. Activating Blind Justice will cause Clive to begin aiming at the enemies in front of him. Moving the cursor from one enemy to the next allows him to target multiple enemies or even target the same enemy multiple times. Press
after launching the Blind Justice lightning orbs to discharge them. - Talk about a move that disrupts the flow of battle. The biggest problem with this move is how unintuitive it is to fit into a string of attacks. There’s not much more to say about it beyond this. If you find yourself amongst the small group of FFXVI fans that enjoy this style of play, consider using it; otherwise, you’ll understand why this ability is in the bottom tier of most ability tier lists (including the Ability Tier List in this walkthrough).

Drive Ramuh’s staff into the ground, electrifying all enemies within a radius of the strike.
Tips and Tricks
- This is an excellent multi-target Eikon Ability that deals quite a bit of damage to nearby enemies.
- As with most AoE attacks, you’ll want enemies to be grouped up before you use this ability. And it has one quirk to always be aware of, which is that it blasts enemies away from the epicenter of the attack. Sometimes this is helpful, as it prevents enemies from gathering up and smothering you with attacks. Still, at other times, this can be annoying because you’ll have to run around from enemy to enemy, defeating them one by one. You can’t follow this ability up with another AoE attack very easily. Instead, you’ll have to start with other multi-target attacks (like
Scarlet Cyclone) first before using this ability.

Create a ball of lightning that, upon being struck, chains lightning to other nearby enemies.
Tips and Tricks
- This attack deals a relatively high amount of damage (3 out of 5 stars) compared to other single-target abilities that you have when you first gain access to it.
- It takes a long time to cast the attack, meaning the enemy needs to be either somewhat far away from Clive or you should include it in a stagger combo.
- The staff that Clive summons during the casting animation for this ability provides negligible value. Only in rare circumstances would it be useful, and it’s challenging to incorporate it into attacks.

Lightning Rod
Eikonic Ability
Create a ball of lightning that, upon being struck, chains lightining to other nearby enemies.
Tips and Tricks
- This ability has the highest utility of all the abilities you have in the game. It can be used to attack groups of enemies and quickly drain an enemy’s “Will Gauge,” but its most important effect is its ability to add to the damage of other skills that you use.
- Place the Lightning Rod near an enemy while that enemy is staggered, and other attacks, such as
Gigaflare or 
Diamond Dust, will also hit the rod, causing nearly double the damage. This helps to build up the stagger damage multiplier very quickly. - When using this around a group of enemies, make sure that Clive targets the Lightning Rod by pressing
. Using this around a group of enemies and striking the Lightning Rod continuously as they get near will allow you to rack up very high amounts of damage quickly, especially if you’ve upgraded the ability. - If you’ve activated Lightning Rod and it’s too far out of range, use Lightning Rod one more time, and it will move the rod closer (unless it desummons).
- This ability can be paired with other abilities to increase their effectiveness. For example:
- The orbs from
Will-o’-the-Wykes will trigger an electrical explosion if Clive is close enough to the Lightning Rod. - Pairing it with powerful attacks will increase the overall damage dealt (including Gigaflare, Diamond Dust,
Windup, or Level 5 Zantetsuken from an 
Arm of Darkness). - Using
Dancing Steel while also hitting the Lightning Rod will increase the rate at which the Zantetsuken meter charges. In fact, using Lightning Rod with Dancing Steel will give you a full Level 5 Zantetsuken if appropriately positioned. - You can also pair it with attacks that drain an enemy’s “Will Gauge,” specifically, like
Gouge, to increase the effect.
- The orbs from
- The Lightning Rod disappears after it has been struck a certain number of times, including any strikes, such as hits from Will-o’-the-Wykes, or even if your party members trigger the effect (attacks from
Torgal).

Judgment Bolt
Eikonic Ability
Summon from the heavens a mighty levinbolt that deals massive damage to a single target.
Tips and Tricks
- This is one of the strongest single-target attacks in the game, with a 4 out of 5 strength attack. Other abilities surpass it later on, but it’s always good to have a few powerful abilities in your Eikonic Ability Sets, and Judgment Bolt makes a great addition.
- It has a lengthy cooldown, but not as lengthy as some of the other comparable powerful abilities.
- Not much more to say—it’s a great ability to include and never outgrows its usefulness.
