Fiend Arena

The Fiend Arena section of the Creature Creator gives you access to two important things:

• Enter Tournaments
• Use the Battle Simulator

The other options let you configure some Fiend Arena settings or “Organize Team,” which is a quick way to get back to the game’s main menu (similar to pressing the button).

Fiend Arena Tournaments

Entering tournaments is one of the most important options in the Creature Creator. You’ll start with access only to the “Standard Cup,” but winning that tournament will earn you a great reward in the HD Remaster version of the game: the Psychic Dressphere. Each tournament is listed below with its unlock requirements, prizes, and opponent teams. The prizes are listed for the wins that award something new; after that, each win awards one of that cup’s earlier prizes at random.

Recruiting Characters

Seymour, Auron, and Tidus (listed as “????”) can only be added to your roster through the Farplane Cup. They appear as opponents once you have won the cup enough times (Seymour after one win, Auron after two, and Tidus after three). If you defeat one of them on the way to winning the cup, a prompt reading “Allow into Gullwings?” appears after you collect your prize. Choose “Yes,” and the character joins your roster.

Releasing one of them means winning the Farplane Cup again to get them back, and there is a known bug where a released character will not rejoin, so be careful before releasing any of the three.

The same prompt is how you recruit Omega Weapon from the Fiend World Cup and Almighty Shinra from the Almighty Shinra Cup.

Battle Simulator

The Battle Simulator lets you fight any team you have already faced in a tournament, as many times as you like. Losing has no penalty, and you keep all of the EXP, AP, and items from every win. The only things you do not receive are Trap Pods, which only come from the tournaments themselves.

The list of teams fills up as you meet them in the tournaments, so entering more tournaments adds more opponents to the simulator. Releasing a creature with a Fayth fragment adds its Aeon to the list as well. The opponents do not carry over into a New Game Plus, though.

Beyond power leveling, the simulator has two other uses. It is the easiest place to learn Blue Bullet abilities from enemies that only appeared once during the story, and you can repeat a battle until the fiends in it Oversoul to fill out Shinra’s Bestiary for the The End Garment Grid (a few Oversoul entries earned here do not count, so check the Bestiary as you go).
